Ashwini Kakkar
joined Thomas Cook (India) Ltd in June 1997 when he was appointed Chief
Executive Officer and Managing Director.
In this role, Ashwini has overall operational responsibilities for the Company
which include the core activities of Corporate Travel Management, Foreign
Exchange, Leisure Travel, Insurance and the Web business. He is also
responsible for the strategic development of the business, including the
implementation of a number of aggressive growth plans. He is presently in
charge of Thomas Cook operations in Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Egypt in addition
to the Indian business. |

Ashwini was appointed member of the Executive Committee of Thomas Cook Group
Worldwide in December 1998. Following the take over of the Thomas Cook Group in
year 2000 by C & N Touristic, Germany, (now known as Thomas Cook A.G), he is a
member of the Top Management Team at Thomas Cook A.G.
Ashwini joined TCIL from International General Electric India, where he held the
position of CEO and Managing Director, and was responsible for creating and
developing businesses in India based on GE’s global capabilities. Before
joining GE in 1990, he held a series of general management roles in Otis
Elevators and Philips India.
Ashwini has a post graduation degree in Management from the Indian Institute of
Management, Calcutta, specialising in Finance and Marketing. He has also
completed his MBA from INSEAD in France, and has Bachelor’s Degrees in
Mechanical Engineering and Law.
Ashwini is a Director on the Board of Alliance Capital Asset Management (India)
Private Limited. He represents Thomas Cook on the Managing/Tourism Committees
of various Trade Bodies/Institutions in India. He was elected Vice President
of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry for the year 2003-2004. In April
2004, he was elected President of the Chamber. He is aged 50, has one daughter
and lives in Mumbai. He was elected Vice President of the Travel Agents’
Association of India (TAAI) in September 2004 for the year 2004-5. |
