Mahmood A. Khan, Ph.D., R.D., F.M.P., Professor in Hospitality & Tourism Management at Virginia Tech's National Capital Region (Washington DC) campus has served in teaching, research and administrative positions for past 36 years, working at major U.S. universities. His area of specialization is in Restaurant Franchising; International Services Management; and International Marketing. Dr. Khan is the author of seven books. He was awarded the first chair position at the University Putra Malaysia. He has traveled extensively and lectured nationally and internationally. He is a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar and has offered workshops and seminars for various professional organizations in several countries. He has received several awards including Stevenson Fletcher Award for outstanding contribution to hospitality education and research, John Wiley & Sons Award for lifetime contribution to outstanding research and scholarship; Donald K. Tressler Award for scholarship; and Cesar Ritz Award for scholarly contribution.

He has served on the Board of Governors of the Educational Foundation of the International Franchise Association, on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Hospitality and Tourism Association, as a Trustee of the International College of Hospitality Management and as a Trustee on the Foundation of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association's International Association. He also serves on Advisory Boards and Examining Committees of several institutions in different countries.

Information: The keynote address titled "Educating Our Students for the Future" will be given by Wayne C. Johnson, a widely recognized thought leader and global influencer. Johnson will review trends, developments, and global realities from the perspective of the private sector, drawing on his extensive executive experience in both the aerospace and information technology industries and his direct involvement in global partnerships with the world’s leading universities, development banks, and non-governmental organizations. His presentation will provide a framework for thinking about the future of education and what must be done to ensure graduates are prepared for lifelong learning in careers that combine professional challenge, mastery, and purpose.

About the Keynote Speaker: Wayne C. Johnson is a member of the ASTRA Board of Directors and an influential member of the global innovation community. Johnson has spent many years navigating corporate and academic interfaces related to intellectual property rights, innovation policy, technology commercialization, and competitiveness issues.

In addition to serving as a board of trustee member for Wentworth, he is a member of the Franklin W. Olin College President’s Advisory Council, a member of the National Academy of Engineering University Industry Demonstration Partnership, the Kauffman Foundation iBridge Strategic Advisory Board, and Chair of the University of Texas El Paso I-STAR External Advisory Board . Most recently, Johnson was vice president of university relations worldwide at Hewlett-Packard Company, and previously to this position he held a variety of leadership positions at the Raytheon Company in Waltham , Mass. , for 33 years.
